Philadelphia Home & Garden - Spring 2007

"Powder Play" by: Brieanne Valencoure Dyas (page 105)

Lesson 3 - "Treat your walls as Art"

Designer Pamela Kofsky, owner of Elegant Interior Design in Ambler, Commissioned a pastoral mural as a period-appropriate touch in her Federal-era Ambler home. Doylestown-based artist Nancy Deni, who worked with Kofsky on other murals in her home, created a scene of rolling hills; lively foliage and blue skies, then gave the same treatment to a clever corner cabinet Kofsky got at an unpainted-furniture store, in order to add storage space that her fluted-base pedestal sink did not provide. The warm-neutral tones in the mural are echoed in brass sconces with pleated ivory shades from Logan Electric in Jenkintown and an antique mahogany Chippendale mirror.

Colors guaranteed to brighten and open up your space.

"White and beige can open up a room and make it appear larger. Other colors that create a less crowded feel are soft shades of grey, blue or green. These are cool colors that recede. They are very calming. Wall color and furniture that are in the same color family tend to create a more cohesive and open look. "
